For the sixth consecutive year, golfing enthusiasts and novice players converged on Wembley Golf Course in October for a thrilling shot at a $250,000 prize in the Perron Institute Hole-in-One competition.
Now a much-anticipated fixture on the local sporting calendar, the event draws participants from all walks of life—from first-time amateurs to seasoned professionals.
The competition is open to the public and in the three weeks leading up to the big day, ‘golden’ balls were randomly released into the range hopper at Wembley’s driving range, offering hopefuls a chance to qualify for the final showdown.
Over 40 hitters including several top golf pros hit off for the major prize.
No one took out the Hole in One grand prize this year. The winner of the Nearest the Pin travel voucher was Peter Byers who landed 6m from the hole.
Complementing the main event on 12 October, a “Play with the Pros” corporate day was held in September, with each team receiving a ‘golden ball’ allowing one nominated player to compete for the coveted prize.
Kids Mini Golf activities on 7 and 9 October further ensured enjoyment of this vibrant community celebration and organisers rolled out the red carpet for very special guests – Fat Cat and the Little Telethon Stars!
Presented by the Perron Institute, Channel 7 Telethon Trust, Wembley Golf Course, and the Town of Cambridge, the initiative raises vital funds for youth mental health research.
All proceeds will go to Telethon to support the Perron Institute’s work to develop personalised treatments that are safe and improve outcomes for young people facing mental health challenges.
“The Town of Cambridge and Wembley Golf Course are very proud of our continued partnership and support of the Perron Institute team in raising funds for Telethon for such an important cause,” said Town of Cambridge CEO Lisa Clack.
“We love this event and are excited to play our part in its continued growth and success each year.”
