PRIME Care Study: Shaping the Future of Personalised Youth Mental Health Care

Researchers at the Perron Institute and The University of Western Australia (UWA) are inviting young people to help shape the PRIME Care study. PRIME Care is the youth-focused arm of the larger PGx-ADAPT project.

About the Study

We are co-designing a Western Australian survey questionnaire to understand youth perspectives on pharmacogenomics (PGx), which uses a person’s genetic profile to help guide antidepressant selection. Before launching the main survey, we need to ensure our information and questions are clear, respectful, and designed properly for young people. Your feedback will directly guide how this emerging science is researched and communicated.

Who Can Take Part?

You can participate if you meet all of the following criteria:

    • Aged 16-25 years (inclusive).
    • Currently live in Western Australia.
    • Have previously sought medical advice for depression and/or anxiety, including advice about antidepressant treatment.
    • Are confident in written and spoken English to engage with our team.

What is Required from Participants?

Participation is completely voluntary. If you choose to take part, you will be asked to complete one of the following activities:

  • Co-design Session (Focus Group or Interview): Join a 45-60 minute small group discussion or one-on-one chat to share your thoughts on how our study topics and survey questions should be worded.
  • Survey Question Review (Cognitive Interview): Meet one-on-one with a researcher for 45-60 minutes to look over draft survey questions and tell us if they are clear and easy to understand.
  • Pilot Survey: Complete a 15-20 minute trial run of our online survey on your own device to help us check that the platform runs smoothly.

🔒 What this study does NOT involve: PRIME Care is a low-risk study exploring views, not a clinical service. It does not involve PGx testing, biological or DNA samples, changes to your medication, or access to your medical records.

To recognise your time and contribution, you will receive a $50 eGift voucher of your choice following your participation.
