Community-based approaches to dying and death will be explored in a free session to be held at the Cancer Council Seminar Room, Milroy Lodge, 15 Bedbrook Place, Shenton Park from 12pm to 3pm on Friday 28 August.

This event, supported by Compassionate Communities Australia, the Death Literacy Institute, Australian Home Funeral Alliance and the Perron Institute, will be presented by holistic death care practitioner, Rebecca Lyons.

Rebecca, known to many as Bec, is a funeral director, End of Life Doula, educator, author and long-time advocate for more personal, family-led approaches to death care.

In 2018 she was awarded a Churchill Fellowship to undertake international research and report on the human relationship to death and ceremony through alternative technologies and approaches.

Topics at the upcoming free session will include end-of-life doulas, home funerals, emerging body disposition options, the future of end-of-life care, and empowering participants to make informed, compassionate choices.

The event will be hosted by Professor Samar Aoun, Chair of Compassionate Communities Australia and the Perron Institute Research Chair in Palliative care at The University of Western Australia.

Lunch is included.
