Research group
Dr Wai Yan (Wayne) Yau studied at The University of Western Australia, the University of Sydney and trained at several hospitals including Sir Charles Gairdner Hospital, Royal Perth and Fiona Stanley. Dr Yau recently returned to Perth, Western Australia after four years in the UK, initially at London’s Royal Free Hospital as an Australian and New Zealand Association of Neurologists (ANZAN) Fellow followed by further training as a Clinical Research Fellow and PhD Candidate at the University College London Institute of Neurology.
Dr Yau has been the recipient of several scholarships and awards, the most recent being the Nicholas Blair Inaugural Fellowship 2020-21 from the Movement Disorder Society of Australia and New Zealand. In his role as a Consultant Neurologist at Perron Institute, Dr Yau plans to pursue his keen interest in the discovery of genetic causes and new therapeutic options for movement disorders, especially ataxic disorders which affect a person’s ability to walk, talk and use fine motor skills.
