Isabella Drew is a PhD student at UWA investigating the benefit of red/near-infrared photobiomodulation therapy for spinal cord injuries. Her main focus is towards establishing the efficacy and safety of a novel LED device, and deducing whether it is capable of promoting a regenerative environment by modulating the inflammatory response and reactive oxygen species induced damage, which is known to permanently hinder neural repair. Considering this is an emerging field, Isabella hopes to help define parameters in order to exert optimal recovery, and hopefully support its implementation into clinical practice.
