The Perron Institute recently partnered with the West Australian Marathon Club (WAMC) for the 2024 Perron Institute Bridges Fun Run for Youth Mental Health.

The Perron Institute was a proud co-sponsor with the City of Perth.

On 14 April, 2,000 runners participated in the 10km and 5km events and over 100 children in the Kids Dash event.

The event showcased a picturesque route spanning one of Perth’s most iconic bridges on a beautiful spring day. It was also an opportunity to make a positive impact on youth mental health. With depression in youth being one of the most prevalent and devastating medical conditions worldwide, the event aimed to raise awareness and funds for research into alternative treatments.

The multidisciplinary youth mental health research team at the Perron Institute is investigating emerging alternative treatments that have the potential to be tailored to individuals’ symptoms, brain structure and genetics to deliver long-term benefits to young people’s lives.

At the end of the event, Associate Professor Jennifer Rodger gave an overview of the Perron Institute and its research, including youth mental health. She is the head of Brain Plasticity Research at Perron Institute and UWA, co-leads the Neuropharmacogenetics project at the Perron Institute, and is the MSWA Senior Research Fellow in Brain Plasticity.

Perron Institute volunteers proudly handed out the finisher’s medals.

Thank you to the organisers, volunteers, fundraisers and everyone who supported this community event.

A highlight for Perth’s running community, this annual event is eagerly anticipated for 2025 and beyond.
