Judith Doverty is a clinical trials assistant in the Perron Institute clinic. She joined us in May after re-locating to Perth from the United Kingdom with her husband Neil (now Executive Director of Fiona Stanley Hospital) and three daughters.
Judith has had fifteen years’ experience working in an acute adult hospital environment in the UK as a graduate nurse and speech and language therapist.
After completing her Bachelor of Science in Nursing at King’s College, London, she specialised as a coronary and intensive care graduate nurse, caring for patients with heart and lung transplants and bypass grafts.
At the Perron Institute, she is working on various clinical trials for people living with multiple sclerosis, Parkinson’s, Huntington’s and motor neurone disease. She has also been assisting with compiling a database for patients with multiple sclerosis.
Of her time at the institute so far, Judith says: “It’s great to be offering hope to people with life threatening conditions.”
She has a Postgraduate Diploma in Marketing and worked in sales and marketing roles for several leading pharmaceutical companies in the fields of cardiology, diabetes, family planning and palliative care / pain control.
While raising her family, she qualified as an early years teacher and ran her own nursery for seven years.
After completing a degree in Human Communication in the UK, she worked for five years as a speech and language therapist at Peterborough Hospital, Cambridgeshire. There, she specialised in swallowing assessments in acute and tracheostomy care, and several therapies including stammering, voice care, aphasia therapy post-stroke and Lee Silverman Voice Therapy for Parkinson’s.
Judith has another string to her bow as a trained classical soprano and has performed at weddings, charity galas and festivals. She was also once a singer and keyboard player in a heavy metal rock band!
Since arriving in Perth, she has joined a community choir and set up a local book club. Judith also enjoys swimming, creative writing and going to live shows. Over the next few years, Judith hopes to explore Australia and New Zealand and welcomes any holiday suggestions!
