Research group
Dr Frances Theunissen is a postdoctoral research scientist working with Professor Anthony Akkari and Dr Loren Flynn in the Motor Neurone Disease Genetics and Therapeutics Research group based at the Perron Institute and at Personalised Medicine Centre, Murdoch University. She is a FightMND Early Career Research Fellow at The University of Notre Dame Australia and Perron Institute. She completed her PhD in 2023, under the supervision of Professor Anthony Akkari, Prof Steve Wilton and Prof Sue Fletcher. Her fellowship research focuses on identifying novel genetic markers and novel precision therapies for MND. Alongside Professor Anthony Akkari, Frances is the project lead for a key genetic therapy at Black Swan Biotech, delivering targeted therapies with the mission of giving the right drug to every patient.
