Golfing Pros, celebrities and novice players hit off for a chance at the Hole in One $500,000 prize at the Wembley Golf Course on Sunday 11 October.
Now in its seventh year, the event is popular for players, from hobbyists to professionals.
This year, several Western Australian top golf pros and celebrities teed off, including West Coast Eagles AFLW players Georgie Cleaver and Amy Franklin, Perth Wildcats player Dylan Windler, Olympic tennis gold medallist John Peers, golf pro Hannah Green, and golf personalities Ron Chopper aka Matthew Heath and Joel Innes.
Also in attendance were Town of Cambridge Mayor Gary Mack, Councillors Xavier Carr and Matt Delmenico and Director Corporate and Commercial Services Bronwyn Rose, and the Perron Institute’s Professor Jenny Rodger, Head of Brain Plasticity Research and Co-leader of Youth Mental Health Research.
The event is open to members of the public of all ages. In the weeks leading up to the big event, ‘Golden’ balls were inserted randomly in the range hopper at the Wembley driving range, giving players the opportunity to win a place in the challenge.
The sunshine, the star line-up and a keen field of golfers and spectators made for a memorable afternoon at Wembley.
Nearest-the-pin prizes of $2,500 were sponsored by Shaw and Partners, for both the public and the Pros competition.
Nearest-the-pin winners were:
- Noah Keren – who won the nearest-the-pin public competition at 2.75m
- Hannah Green – who won the Pros nearest-the-pin competition at 5.45m
Hannah Green, ranked 10th in the world, won the 2019 Women’s PGA Championship and in 2022 became the first woman to win a 72-hole professional mixed-gender tournament.
Several events were held as part of this popular fundraising initiative presented by the Perron Institute, Channel 7 Telethon Trust, and the Town of Cambridge through its owned and operated Wembley Golf Course.
All proceeds go to Telethon for Perron Institute research into youth mental health to develop personalised treatment options to improve outcomes and wellbeing for adolescents and young adults.
