Dr Rebekah Puls joins the Perron Institute Board
The depth of experience on Western Australia’s Perron Institute Board has been further increased with the recent appointment of Dr Rebekah Puls as a Director.
Dr Puls, a senior medical research professional, brings significant clinical trial and executive management experience to her new role. She is Chair of the Institute’s Research Advisory Committee.
A particular strength has been her success in bringing multidisciplinary research groups together to expedite improvements in the delivery of clinical treatment and healthcare to the community.
Dr Puls completed her Bachelor of Science (Honours) and PhD at The University of Western Australia and has recently returned to Perth after being Sydney based for the past 21 years.
She has had significant research achievements in the areas of HIV infection and treatment, immunology and infectious diseases. Several studies provided updates to international HIV treatment guidelines for the World Health Organisation and one study resulted in a U.S. Food and Drug Administration approval.
As well as taking up her Perron Institute directorship, Dr Puls will continue as Executive Officer of the H2Seq Initiative, a national virus genomics network to reduce the incidence and impact of HIV and hepatitis C in Australia.
In announcing the appointment, Perron Institute Chair, Professor Alan Robson AO, CitWA said Dr Puls had an impressive record of achievement.
“We warmly welcome her to the Board and look forward to her contribution,” he said.
