Professor Rohit Pokharel is Professor and chief of the Spine Unit of Department of Orthopaedics and Trauma Surgery at the Institute of Medicine, Tribhuvan University, Nepal.
He is a medical graduate from Tribhuvan University but importantly holds a PhD from Kobe University, Japan in the field of orthopaedic surgery for his work on “molecular basis of bone and cartilage diseases” and is a spine fellow of Royal Adelaide hospital SA. He is Founder Board Member and is current vice president of Muscular Dystrophy Foundation-Nepal. He is the founder president of Association of Spine Surgeons of Nepal (ASSN) and is
president elect of Nepal Orthopaedic Association (NOA). Professor Pokharel has been the recipient of the Mahendra Bidyabhusan Ka award, Nepal’s highest academic award as well as both Best Teacher and Best Doctor awards from the Institute of Medicine at Tribhuvan University.
Appointing Professor Pokharel as an International Affiliate is in recognition of his leadership role in the muscular dystrophy community in Nepal and his strong links to the Perron Institute over many years in the muscular dystrophy field.
