Dr Stuart Hodgetts holds a joint appointment at Perron Institute and UWA. He has extensive knowledge and expertise in cell and stem cell-based transplantation therapies. Professor Hodgetts’ previous postdoctoral work includes, two and a half years at the Oklahoma Medical Research Foundation for immunological gene transcription, and seven years in the Muscle Research team at the UWA School of Anatomy & Human Biology.
Since 2003, he has focussed his expertise toward spinal cord repair using clinical grade adult human mesenchymal stem cells, as well as in combination with gene therapy, in vivo reprogramming, tissue engineering, neuroprotection, immunomodulation of the host immune response, and non-invasive therapies such as red/near infra-red light and repetitive transcranial magnetic stimulation. His laboratory provides a core facility for collaboration with other neuroscientists and engineers seeking to apply pre-clinical regenerative therapies in the spinal cord.
