Research group
Dr Coudert is the lead scientist in charge of the translational research laboratory of the Myositis Discovery programme, headed by Prof Merrilee Needham. Originally from France where he completed a PhD in Immunology, his scientific training further extended as a postdoctoral fellow in Switzerland (2002-2006) and then in Perth (2007-2010). In 2010, he initiated his first independent immunology research group.
Dr Coudert joined the Myositis Discovery Programme in 2017, based on Murdoch University campus. The research work is centred on IBM (Inclusion Body Myositis), a chronic and progressive inflammatory type of myopathy characterised by muscle degeneration and autoimmune aggression. The diagnosis occurs most often late due to the lack of specific biomarkers, and there is currently no cure. The research aims to understand the underlying mechanisms in order to develop new diagnosis tools and treatment options for the patients.
Beside conducting research activity and postgraduate student mentoring, he is also involved in teaching at Murdoch University and at the University of Notre Dame.
