A computer scientist by background with a PhD from the University of Western Australia in the field of artificial intelligence, Professor Matt Bellgard is the inaugural Director of the Centre for Comparative Genomics (CCG) at Murdoch University, established in 2006 as a Western Australian State Government Centre of Excellence. The CCG undertakes research in the biosciences and has a growing focus on personalised medicine bringing together expertise in bioinformatics, genomics, molecular therapies, software development, and super and cloud computing. The CCG has grown to be one of Murdoch University’s leading research centres with a workforce of 26 and an annual budget of over $4 million. The CCG is home to the Molecular Therapy Laboratory led by Steve Wilton and Sue Fletcher.
