Gabriella MacDougall is a PhD Student at the Perron Institute in the area of Stroke Research.
In 2015 Gabriella was awarded First Class Honours for her investigation into the mechanisms involved in the neuroprotective action of a recently discovered class of neuroactive peptide, known as arginine-rich peptides. In 2016 Gabriella decided to undertake a PhD through the University of Notre Dame. Gabriella’s project aims to further investigate and characterise the neuroprotective mechanisms of action of arginine-rich peptides. These studies will utilise neuronal and non-neuronal cell lines and investigate peptide actions on mitochondria, cell signaling and the cytoprotective efficacy in different cell injury models.
