Trial Aim Description

Improvement of lung function, gait and mobility in Parkinson’s disease following Inspiratory Muscle Training (IMT).

Trial Eligibility/Requirements – Patients with Parkinson’s

Aged over 18 years, with a diagnosis of Parkinson’s disease, have mild to moderate balance impairment though able to walk independently, reduced exercise tolerance. Participants will be recruited to undergo 8 weeks of High intensity IMT or 8 weeks of Sham IMT. After initial supervised training, participants will perform the 21-minute exercise program 3 times a week at home.

The Perron Institute is recruiting healthy participants for control data for our study investigating improvement of lung function, gait and mobility in Parkinson’s disease following inspiratory muscle training (IMT).

We are seeking males and females aged 55 years and over to undertake a lung function test, speech assessment and balance and walking tests. They are required to attend 1 x 3 hour appointments.
